5 Aurora Barbarians to play for Canada Select Team

Deej Marco "Deej" DiGirolamo will captain the Canada Select team – Marco, affectionately known a "Deej" by all in our club, has been a member of the Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. for 15 years. He made his debut as a 15 year old in the Junior team, and has played his entire career for the club. He was a member of Rugby Ontario Junior representative teams. He played for Canada at the 2003 IRB Rugby World Cup, where he was the only Canadian player to start in every game at the tournament. In total, he has been "capped" 21 times for his country at 15 a-side. In addition, he was Captain of the Canada 7 a-side Team and earned 31 "caps" at this level. Marco retired from International rugby after the 2005 World Cup Sevens Tournament in Hong Kong, but he continues to play for the club first team, and has made a major contribution to success of the Aurora Barbarians over the last 15 years. He currently plays Centre (#13) or Wing for the club 1st team and was leading try scorer in the Marshall Division of the Ontario Rugby Union in the Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. 2006 Championship season.

Ollie Oliver "Ollie" Atkinson – affectionately known as "Ollie", he also joined the Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. as a 15 year old in the Junior program and has played for the club for 11 years. Ollie has been named as a non-traveling reserve for the 2007 Team Canada for the Rugby World Cup. Ollie has played for the Velox Valhalians R.F.C. in British Columbia and played last winter season for Bordeaux Begles R.C. in France. Ollie has represented Canada National Senior men’s team 5 times.

Deano Dean Van Camp – a product of Port Perry H.S., Dean played his Junior rugby with Oshawa R.F.C., and with his club’s agreement, joined Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. as a 19 year old. Dean was a product of the RugbyOntario Junior program, and played for Canada Under 19, Under 21 and Under 23 teams. He has played for the Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. in the Marshall Division, scoring a number of memorable tries for the club. Dean moved to British Columbia to play for the Canadian national 7 a-side team, and while playing for Velox Valhalians R.F.C., he was added to the National Men’s Senior Team. Dean has been named as a non-traveling reserve for the 2007 Team Canada for the Rugby World Cup. Dean represented Canada National Senior men’s team 3 times.

Robbie Robbie Ashwood – a product of Barrie Central H.S. rugby program, Robbie is a graduate of the RugbyOntario Junior program and earned international recognition with Canada at the Under 19 and Under 21 levels. He captained Barrie Central to a gold medal in OFSSA "AAA" Men’s Rugby championship and won three OUA gold medals representing McMaster University. Rob graduated from McMaster in 2006. Rob played U-21 rugby within the Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. Junior Program and he has played his entire club career with the Barbs. He continues to provide outstanding service to the club and has a great future at all levels of rugby.

Dave Dave Nielsen – Dave is a product of the Aurora Barbarians R.F.C. and the RugbyOntario Junior Programs and represented Canada at Under 19 and Under 21 level. In June of 2007 he played for Canada Under 21 team against the U.S. Collegiate All American Team in the two game series and was twice chosen as "Man of the Match". Dave played one season in the United Kingdom with Leicester R.F.C. in their junior program, and spent a season in New Zealand playing with Mid-Canterbury in the Heartland Competition. Dave has a great future in rugby and he is equally comfortable playing at Hooker, (#2) or Flanker, (#7).
