Aurora Barbarians – Under 18 Boys
Aurora Barbarians RFC (ABRFC) 65 - Yeoman RFC 0
Last night the u18s defeated Yeomen 65-0 to extend their winning streak in the league to five games and sets up a interesting rematch next week against Markham. It will give the u18s a chance to avenge their only loss in league play this summer.
The u18s scored early and often against Yeomen who played well, but could not match the speed, power and pace of the Aurora XV. The game was only a few minutes old when inside centre Kyle Ainsley crashed through several defenders to score under the posts and give fullback Leo Dubinski an easy convert to stake a 7-0 lead.
With the scent of victory already firing up the testosterone-driven it wasn't long before another Aurora players touched down over the try-line. This time it was outside centre Jesse Walker notching the first of his two tries. Again Dubinski was good with the convert and the score was now 14-0. Further tries in the first half were tallied by Walker, with his second, fly-half Eric Selvaggi, winger Cody Williams and #8 Trevor Spence added two more. Dubinski made the first five converts but was then unable to hit another. That made the score 47-0 at the half.
Coach Townsend was delighted with the performance and substituted freely even before halftime, " I do play everybody every game and a score like tonight meams I can make the changes early. I do find it unfortunate that the starters don't get more than 20 or 30 minutes because they need time to mesh together for our important final games. Tonight I had 30 players ready and willing to play which is great. The support players know that they must be ready to go in at a moment's notice and they are there to push the starters to earn their place. The mood among all the players is really good and I think it will help us in the final weeks of the season."
The u18s took their foot off the pedal in the second half and with the Yeomen not conceding an inch the second half was much tougher. Play moved back and forth across the rain soaked field with Aurora adding four tries and keeping their slate clean. Try scorers were second rower Ryan Conium, #8 Mike Perkins, flanker Jimmy McNight and scrumhalf Cody Rhebergen. Fullback Cedrick Bedard had a evening to forget missing all four convert attempts.
The u18s final regaular season game is Wednesday August 5th at Markham RFC.
