Under 16 Men
Alliston Timberwolves 19 vs Aurora Barbarians RFC (ABRFC) 15

The Aurora Barbs lost a tough one to the Alliston Timberwolves at Fletcher’s Fields on Wednesday night. With injuries and a short bench, Aurora found their guests to be a fairly even match-up. The Timberwolves pounced quickly, scoring an unconverted try in the corner in the first two minutes of the game. The Barbs woke up and mounted a series of attacks of their own. The payoff was a spectacular, sevens-style run by Alex Todd through a half-dozen defenders to score in the corner. Alliston answered shortly afterwards with a converted try to pull ahead again. Undaunted, the Barbs marched down the field and drew a penalty in the Alliston end. Scrum-half, Scott Quagliarini nearly scored on a brilliant run, but was able to pop the ball from a tackle to Leo Policelli. This made the score 12 – 10 for Alliston at halftime. In the second half, Alliston again scored a converted try to seemingly put the game out of reach. However, the Barbs’ hard-nosed attacks resulted in a late try by Brandon Lewis to make it 19 – 15 with four minutes to go. Aurora maintained possession in attack for most of that time, but just could not connect the right pass to steal the game. This was Aurora ’s final league game. Once all the teams in the division finish this weekend, the final standings will be set and the playoff matches made. The Central Division semi-final games will take place Saturday, August 18 and the final on August 25.

Man of the Match honours go to Brandon Lewis. Heart Hurrahs go out to: MJ, Shane Taylor, Leo Policelli and Eric Selvaggi.
