Under 18 Men - Aurora u18s Swamp Irish 48-5
Aurora Barbarians RFC (ABRFC) 48 - Irish 5
The u18s improved their regular season record to 4 and 1 with a 48-5 defeat of the Toronto Irish this week in Toronto Rugby Union u18 action.
Aurora led from the very start and did not let the Irish team get untracked. The first try, scored when the game was less than one minute, was scored by second row Matt Adamson, who scooped up a loose ball and crashed over the line. Aurora put the opening kick off deep and the pressure was too much for the Irish winger who eagerly gave the ball up to the onrushing Adamson.
Aurora kept up the pressure and they were rewarded with another try, this time by center JD Otten, who powered through three defenders to score under the posts. He converted his try and the lead was now 12-0. And the team was just getting warmed up.
Two more first half tries, by Winston Cho and Luke Vanderhurst, plus a second conversion by Otten pushed the score to 24-5.
The half time whistle brought changes galore to the line-up and after a few minutes of play, the u18s settled, once again, into a dominant mode. They did not let up in the second half scoring another four tries, including a second for Adamson with singles going to fullback Naveen Neethling, flanker Ciaran “Swervn Mervyn” McSwiggan and winger Zach Pilotte. Pilotte had a busy second half as he replaced Otten as kicker, converting three of four tries.
The next action for the Aurora squad is Wednesday August 1st against Ajax at the Wanderers ground in Ajax.
