Under 18 Men - U18s defeat Markham in Local Derby
Exhibition: Aurora Barbarians RFC (ABRFC) 19 - Markham 10
Aurora defeated Markham 19-10 last night in an exhibition match held at Williams High School. Both teams had played hard matches the previous night and the objective was to give some new players a chance to shine. It certainly worked for Aurora has their young guns stepped up to push the side to victory.
A few steady hands like center JD Otten and fullback Naveen Neethling were there to right the ship and keep it going in the correct direction but most of the play was in the hands of new players. Neethling did add one try that JD converted, also adding a try was Khalil Beriani converted by Zach Pilotte. The final points were put on the board by old-timer, Graydon Farquhar, who despite a painful leg and playing out of position, was able to dance around the opposition to score a try.
Coach Townsend said, “I was really pleased with the total team effort, especially after last night’s game. Even half way through the season we are still integrating players into the line up and working to establish a pattern of play. Games like tonight help us get everyone into some action and see how they react. I know that we (the coaching staff) are happy with the result and the way some players are developing.”
Their next action is Monday night at Fletcher’s against Wallington Grammar School. The last time these two teams met was in 2005 when Aurora defeated the English side 19-14 on a last minute try. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm
