Men’s Third Team
Aurora ’s Third Team threatened the Oakville Crusaders early, when the wily Bart Hennessey stole a pass and scored under the posts 90 seconds into the game (he also kicked the convert). Unfortunately, Cru took over the scoring, putting across 5 tries by the final whistle. Given that many players had to play in different positions and that the Cru put out a truly big side, the Barbs players came off the field in good spirits. Like the old cliché, they really had left everything on the field. The final score was 27 – 7 .
Men’s Second Team
The Aurora Barbarians 2 lost to Oakville Crusaders 2, 41 – 17 in Oakville on Saturday. The Crusaders’ game plan featured a lot of kicking and chasing which caught the Barbs flat-footed several times. The Cru scored 3 times in the first half before Aurora countered with a “magically delicious” (Leighton Chong) try scored by Andy Sellar just before the whistle. (Joke: Why does Bart hate the Cru? They’re always after his lucky charms)
The Barbs shifted the momentum temporarily with a beautiful try punched in by Paul (House of) Payne. The Cru revved up their offence putting in four more tries to put the game out of reach. Aurora scored a consolation try, again by Paul Payne just before full time. Bryn Davies kicked the convert.
Men’s First Team
Cru asked for a re-schedule to accommodate players away with the Thunder. Game will be played Wednesday night in Oakville
