Game Report: July 15, 2006

Under 14's
A hard fought game against Lindsay but Aurora came out on the short end of a 33-5 shoreline. A tough, physical game that saw many hard tackles by Conor Anderson, Alex Congiusta and Brandon Lewis. John Grant, our #8, was the lone try scorer for Aurora.

Next game is against Robert Clack Comprehensive School from England on Thursday July 22nd. Kick-off is 7pm at Fletchers.

Senior Men's Third Team
Aurora's Third Team took a serious thumping from Beach 3 on the scoreboard, but played better than the final score indicated. Beach scored first at the 5 minute mark. It was a fairly even match through the next 20 minutes until Andy Sellar (Lucky Charms) punched one across the line. Unfortunately the torrid conditions took their toll and the dam burst open. Despite some frequent bursts of spirited play, Beach kept scoring on a regular basis. The final score was 53 - 5.

Senior Men's Second Team
The Aurora Barbarians 2 lost to Balmy Beach 2, 31 - 17 at Fletcher's Fields on Saturday. Beach struck twice early in the first half and the game settled into a tough stalemate almost until the whistle. The Barbs scored late to make the game 14 - 7 at halftime. The momentum shifted briefly when Aurora scored again 10 minutes into the second half to bring them within two points (12 - 14). Unfortunately, Beach scored three more tries and the Barbs could only answer once. The Barbs never conceded and it should be noted that on the final play of the game, on a 40 metre run, Paul Payne sold a dummy pass, twice (!), and then made a beautiful pass before the before the ball was killed just short of the try line. Aurora's try-scorers were: Jesse Hayman, Paul Payne and Alisdair Piercy. Bryn Davies kicked the convert.

Men's First Team
The Aurora Barbarians First Team demonstrated creativity and flair in soundly defeating a formidable Balmy Beach side, 30 - 9 , at Fletcher's Fields. Early indications were that this game would devolve into strategic kicking match. The score at the 35 minute mark was only 6 - 3 for Beach as the two clubs exchanged penalty kicks. However, Aurora pounced twice for tries in last two minutes of the first half, to take a 13 - 6 lead. In the second half, the Barbs' defence shut down the determined Beach attacks conceding only one penalty kick. Aurora put in two more converted tries and a penalty to finish off the day. The try-scorers were: Nolan Ott, Marco DiGirolamo (2) and Andrew Ziricino. Ziricino also kicked two penalties and two converts. This was a solid win against a strong Marshall Division rival. Aurora now has six wins and zero losses, its best start in years.
