Men's U-18 Team
The Aurora Barbarians u18 team opened their 2006 season with a convincing 35-0 victory over the Toronto Saracens Wednesday night at Fletcher's Fields. The Aurora squad scored in twice in the first 15 minutes and never looked back.
The team has only had five practices together and are really just getting to know each other. Coach Sandy Townsend said, "It has been a difficult start to the year. Every week we have had players miss practice for athletic banquets, graduations or proms. I'm just glad we had such a great turn-out tonight and that everyone got a chance to play."
The first try of the night came from fly-half Paul Ross who dove into the end zone after picking up the ball from a ruck near the goal line. The try was converted was made by JD Otten and the score was 7-0.
Shortly thereafter scrumhalf Jamie Bartle darted through the defence to score a similar try. Otten converted again and the score was 14-0.
The Saracens defense regrouped and kept Aurora from scoring until a powerful forwards drive put Aurora's Khalil Arjam into the end zone under a pile of bodies. Again Otten converted and the halftime score was 21-0.
In the second half scores from Bartle and Alex Sabo with another convert from Otten and one from Craig McDowell pushed the final tally to 35-0.
The next game for Aurora is Wednesday July 5 th in Barrie. |
