Game Report: Sat. June 25, 2005
Aurora Barbs Women 1
The Barbs put a clinic on at Fletcher's on Saturday, playing in the hottest temperatures
yet this summer. Coming off a tough loss to the Scottish, the women re-grouped
and controlled every aspect of the game against the Toronto Saracens. Aurora dominated
the scrums, the lineouts and the loose play, making big hits all afternoon and
playing close support on every breakthrough. The Barbs put across twelve tries
during the match. Three from Nathalie Bendavid, 2 each by Michelle Pearlman,
Melissa Bruneau and Leila Hughes, and 1 each from Andrea Yeung,
Amanda Huzarski and Virginia Edwards. Melissa also slotted 7 converts.
Despite the appalling heat, the women felt re-charged and ready to play their
last two games of the regular season in the same style.
Aurora Barbs Women 2
The Barbs second team remains undefeated with a firm hold on first place after
marching over the Saracens, 30 - 0. The heat was worse even than it was for the
first team, since there was no breeze blowing. Some Saracens had to leave the
game with heat ailments. Not so for Aurora as they moved the ball well and made
aggressive runs throughout the game. The try-scorers were Pam Farquhar
with 2, Tara Doctorow, Amanda Huzarski, Haley Ayotte (our rookie "girl
of the game") and Kemeel Franklin. Last note: with time expired but
with a penalty holding up the final whistle, Kemeel called for the ball off a
tap and punched the final try across.
Both teams next face the Peterborough Pagans.
